Happy Spring Equinox!

Dr. Max shared a first day of spring moment with a friend, and hopes you get the chance to do the same.

I've been asked many times, what does Dr. Max Abima do when he is not engaging his genius in  professional pursuits, so I shadowed him with the camera.  Caught him in a candid moment indulging his inner artist.

I assume it was an art project.  Must check those eggs in a few days.  Max is also a geneticist.

Gratitude, New Years, and Maxxy Cyrus

Of all the things in the world I could have fallen in love with, I am SO grateful it was Uglydolls. It could have been anything from exotic wines to figure skating. Wine makes me ill, and if you saw me, you'd know what a cruel joke a desire to figure skate would have been.

But it was sweetly and blessedly Uglydolls.  Not a day goes by that my life is not filled with their antics, their laughter, and adventures. And when we're having a day off the fun, other members of the Uglydoll community are right there with a quick photo or kind word.

When I look back at the day before I met my first Uglydoll I am aware of the absence of color, the flat dimensions my house had before they took over every wall, nook, and chair and I'm grateful.

Dr. Max Abima is grateful too.  He's grateful to Miley Cyrus the for inspiration to try something new.  And he's grateful of Sun-min Kim and David Horvath for stuffing him with the  courage to be defined only by himself and  his limitless dreams. For the courage to be UGLY!!!

Dr. Max's Prescription for Happiness

Dr. Max Abima here with another prescription for happiness.
Spend time with friends.  Make some new ones.  Appreciate the differences.  Be ready for something wonderful to come from a place you never expected.
If you're red and one foot tall, celebrate it.
If you're a 6 foot and bony, celebrate it.
In general, see the best in everyone!

Flyers will be Flyers

Up past midnight placing my new and highest Uglydoll shelf. Before I could climb down from the ladder, three flyers zoomed up and claimed the space.

All of my Poe's are keen for a high perch. Flyers will be Flyers!

Friends are the Best

Virgil brought his wee Wage friend January along for the day.  January is having such a good time watching, meeting, and greeting that he may become a constant companion.  Virgil admires January's natural flow with people, who seem more likely to speak to wee Wage than Virgil. It's a curiosity, when you consider  the massive charms of the Abima family.

Halloween Fun

We like to have fun!

With Halloween around the corner, we're putting together some ideas for fun with costumes for our Uglys.  Back in the day, early Uglydoll fans made some amazing costumes and we hope to revive and carry on the tradition.

Max Abima Food Explorer

Add Food Explorer to Dr. Max Abima's long list of credentials.  With the ease of one born to fine delectibles, Max lead us to the unassuming doorstep of i Sushi-Teriyaki in DuPont WA.

No, I protested.  I don't eat Sushi, and I eat teriyaki way to often.  But Max would not be deterred, so in we went.  From the moment we entered we were intrigued by the aromas, and  enamored with kindness of the staff,.

Before long Max and I were gazing down into a Chicken Hot Stone Pot. They are not kidding.  The pot is stone, and it is HOT.  It kept the food more than warm for the entire meal. Along side this pleasant mix of 5 vegetables and chicken was a sauce the color of Max.  The flavor was intoxicating.  Our new food friend turned out to be Korean Hot Sauce.  It was so tasty in fact that we returned for a second meal within 3 days with Max's little brother, Virgil.

Now can anyone tell me how to make Korean Hot Sauce?  Mamma pajama, that stuff rocks.

Max and Dave Go Shopping

Dr. Max agrees with his new buddy, Dave Darinko that some updated, expanded shelving is in order for our crowded Ugly house.  

So Max grabbed Dave, us  and the car keys and headed off for IKEA.  The drive was long , rainy and quite pleasant.  

It was a good thing we had two Uglys along with an eye for decor because we could not find the unit we intended to buy and had to improvise on the spot. Max and Dave hopped from unit to unit, testing them for head clearance and color. 

We found that not only were most of the shelf units way to big for the car, they were also too heavy to carry and too expensive to buy. So we scaled our large and elaborate dreams of floor to ceiling white wall units down to some politely priced,  smaller, lightweight shelves in a color called black-brown. Max says one must remain flexible when decorating. We bent over backwards. 

  

After grabbing a few other Ugly wall accessories we headed home for the big build now currently underway in the living room.  Soon you will be seeing how our huge white wall unit turned small, modest black-brown grouping of shelves looks covered in our beloved Uglys.  Dave Darinko says once the Uglydolls hop aboard no one will ever notice the shelves.  How true! 

Abima Economy Class

Traveling Economy Class can be a bit cramped.  But it is well worth it when you have family and friends waiting to welcome you with a hug and some good chiropractic care. Dr. Max to the rescue.

Abima Brothers A Day in the Life

Max Abima used his extensive skills as a Landscape Engineer to supervise the spring clean-up and planning on our little acre of land. Max made certain we did the most important things first, and took snack breaks.

While his big brother Max was busy with the great outdoors, Little Virgil Abima turned his attentions to selecting fabric for his new cape. He's worn his holiday cape without complaint, but is more than ready for non-seasonal attire.  He chose two patterns.  One for classy occasions and the other for everyday wear.

It's a busy day in the Ugly Shire.

And hey!  I think that's my hat!

Little Virgil found the deal of the day.  Two pounds of Christmas coffee at Starbucks for the price of one.
Tomorrow it's buy one Via get one free.  He'll be back for that.

It's a Mystery

MartyKat may be an Uglydoll of the Gato Deluxe variety, but he's also pure cat and ... curious.
Last night he took to the shadows and went to the Big Room to see what his friends were up to.  He was stopped in his tracks by something completely unexpected.  ANOTHER Gato Deluxe.   MartyKat does not know where this new fellow came from....and neither do we!  Seriously! But there he was, standing amongst MartyKats friends like he belongs.

We thought he was MartyKat, seen in the left of photo.  Nope. Far from it. The mystery fellow could be Gato Super Deluxe from his plump and ample stature. Everyone is talking about it today.
Where DID he come from?
The new guy's not talking.  He likes the attention.  We named him Mr. Ree.

Rain? No problem.

It takes more than inclement weather to keep an Uglydoll like Dr. Max Abima from making his rounds.

Today he popped into his rain slicker and headed to the Starbuck's Drive-Thru.  Max didn't even have to say a word.  Just one look from him and the Starbuck's staff was laughing.  Like most Uglys, he has personality that can light up a room. It's in the genes.

When we told the SB staff that Max was paying for our drinks, they spoke to him directly and called him a real gentleman.  How true!
I'm sure they were extra pleased that Max tips well.

Steven the Bat

Dr. Max Abima is a patron of the arts.  His taste runs wide, but he has a special love of vinyl, and particularly the art of David Horvath (big surprise there), Le Merde, and Bwana Spoons.

Max's collection is growing and his newest piece is a gorgeous Mini Steven the Bat with green glitter!  We'll try for a better pic later, but Max was so excited to share he couldn't wait.

More Halloween Fun

Dr. Max Abima is an Uglydoll with many facets.  Here he explores his whimsical side as he consults with friends on their Halloween costumes.
