Hello I Kill You

When I first saw Hello I Kill You it scared me.  But then I saw darling Wedgehead looking up with love in his eye and I realized I felt just the way Wedgehead does about this monster.  The more I looked at it ,the more I chuckled, whilst quickly pushing the BUY button.

The back of the frame had a secret surprise. David Horvath signed it, and wrote "Gargamel Rules", and added a drawing of Wedgehead.  You don't notice this secret writing at first because David used a darkish pen on a  dark surface.  Very cool!

I placed it on a piece of furniture in a high traffic area so I can enjoy it many times a days.  I can hardly believe my good fortune to have this!

Comes from the Gargamel and Friends show at Rotofugi Gallery Dec 10, 2010 to Jan 9, 2011.

Ugly Town Drawing

I can hardly believe this original drawing by David Horvath is actually mine.  It is my most recent addition to my tiny art collection, and I just love it!

The detail is amazing.  I lose myself into Ugly Town when I gaze at it.  Every nook is occupied by a favorite friend such as Uglyworm, Abima, and Wedgehead.  My gosh, how does David do this!!?

The collector I bought it from said he bought it at a Giant Robot show some years ago.  That's really all I know about the history.

It has a permanent home with me.

Nothing to Fear

This is my newest Sun-Min and David art.  It may be small at about the size of a large recipe card, but it is large in every other way.
The cheery pink background draws the eye in from half way across the room.  As you get closer, the adorable Babo and Wage are waiting with an  important and often overlooked message in todays world:  Nothing to Fear.

The result of a close-up encounter with this piece is a lighthearted optimism that is highly contagious. It's already infected a half dozen people!  I'll have to look around the edges of the frame for a "happy warning" label.

I don't know if it's a laser print, or what kind of paper it is, or any of the things people will ask me.  It came in the little frame and is signed by Sun-Min and David and numbered 1/1.  That's the extent of the technical data I have.

Less than five minutes after getting some unexpected Christmas cash I purchased it!  Thanks you to all the forces that made this possible:  David, Sun-Min, and the generosity of my friends.

It makes an interesting tree-topper.  Ice Bat surrendered the space like a gentleman, but he'll be back!  He's a natural-born star.

When Art Has Wheels

When art has wheels you are presented with some rather unique options.
There's the obvious....you could go places with it, hang out around town with it, show it to strangers, haul heavy items with it.
But for me, skimming across the surface of planet earth atop one of my most cherished art pieces would result in some cuts, contusions, and possibly breaks.  Hopefully mine and not the Ugly skate decks!

The latter possibility that harm could befall my new lovely Ugly deck inspired me to ride it all of 4 to 6 inches across the hardwood floor of my living room, then reverently elevate it to a tabletop to admire it for what it really is.  ART.

So now I have an art piece with wheels.  Wheels on the wall will have it's own unique effect in my life. People will wonder, people will ask, why do you have a skateboard on your wall.  And I will explain that it is not a skateboard, but a fine piece of Uglydoll art on wheels.  One that will never again touch the ground.
