Giant Robot Delivers

When Giant Robot teams up with Uglydoll, they deliver 10 pounds of fun in a 2 pound box.

Though this group arrived together, they quickly spread out and disappeared across the Ugly Shire.  They are a busy lot, and will keep us on our toes.

I'm forming a tracking party today, and supplying them with cookies and cameras.  When we find these guys, we'll report back.

Luv You Ox of a Different Color

Goodness.  Fea Bea came across another Valentine Ox looking for a ride.

I think Feabs will find a way to tote them both.

But what if there are MORE!  She'll need a bigger wagon, because these Ox's are irresistible.

Crocus Dreams

Little Poe is an Uglydoll that likes the outdoors, but here in the moist and chilly northwest, he enjoys an indoor perch in the winter.

When I found him pumping his extended wings,  I knew something was up.

"The crocus are sprouting," he exclaimed in that voice only Poe can do.

Though the weather is still cold and wet,  this Poe has crocus dreams, soon to come true.  Wippy may just join him this year.  I know I will!

Dr. Max Up Close

I've been asked many times, what does Dr. Max Abima do when he is not engaging his genius in  professional pursuits, so I shadowed him with the camera.  Caught him in a candid moment indulging his inner artist.

I assume it was an art project.  Must check those eggs in a few days.  Max is also a geneticist.

Ox OXOX Valentine

Fea Bea doesn't share her wagon with just anyone.  But the charms of Ox worked their magic on her.  Just imagine having the charm and good looks of Ox.  Hey!  You can!

Found a couple on Amazon, but with magnetism like his, they won't last long.

Best Friends Valentine

Fea Bea likes hanging around with these two Best Friends from Uglydoll.  Wedgehead and Ox have been best friends for years and they know how to represent you on Valentine's Day.

A piece of candy is sweet in the moment.  The sweet on these two never fades.

Yes!  You get both of them holding half of the Best Friends heart.

Cute factor: 10+
Price:  Cheaper than chocolates.
Happy memory factor: 10++

You can get them from the Uglydoll Store, or maybe your local toy store.

Valentine Ice Bat

Nothing says I love you like I LUV ME Ice Bat.  I mean, think about it.

So if you love I LUV ME like I love I LUV ME, then maybe you love yourself enough to get one!  Or give one.

Six dollars will get it done at Giant Robot.

Uglydoll Magnets

Badge Bomb pumped up the art from the Uglydoll buttons and transformed them into MAGNETS!

This is my favorite set with four of the big star original line-up of Uglydolls: Babo, Wage, Wedgehead, and Ox.  There are other sets if you don't see your favorite here.

So far I've only found these on Tainted Visions ebay offerings and have not found them elsewhere.  In the new era of Uglydom I no longer have any idea what is coming, when, or where.  I'm now using the method of stumbling across new Ugly items and grabbing them when I can. The magnets were a fun surprise!

Anyway, as I stumble, I will share!

Somethings Fishy

Somethings Fishy!

Fishy is one of the new offerings from Uglydoll in the 2013 line-up.  There are so many new Uglydolls I can't keep up any more.  But Fishy hooked me!

He has old school charm with stylish toned down colors, white eyes, and brownish red nose.  That is SO classic Uglydoll.  Add to that his totally modern big feet and long uppy arms and he's a Big Fish in the Ugly Sea!

Adoption is in the works, so check back soon for a report on his softness and huggability. I expect high marks.

Gratitude, New Years, and Maxxy Cyrus

Of all the things in the world I could have fallen in love with, I am SO grateful it was Uglydolls. It could have been anything from exotic wines to figure skating. Wine makes me ill, and if you saw me, you'd know what a cruel joke a desire to figure skate would have been.

But it was sweetly and blessedly Uglydolls.  Not a day goes by that my life is not filled with their antics, their laughter, and adventures. And when we're having a day off the fun, other members of the Uglydoll community are right there with a quick photo or kind word.

When I look back at the day before I met my first Uglydoll I am aware of the absence of color, the flat dimensions my house had before they took over every wall, nook, and chair and I'm grateful.

Dr. Max Abima is grateful too.  He's grateful to Miley Cyrus the for inspiration to try something new.  And he's grateful of Sun-min Kim and David Horvath for stuffing him with the  courage to be defined only by himself and  his limitless dreams. For the courage to be UGLY!!!

Happy New Year Uglyverse!!!!

Uglybuddies

You want the good news first. I can tell.
That's perfect because with Uglydolls the news is ALWAYS good!

I just ordered three Uglybuddies. It was a tough choice but I went with Wedgehead, Wage and Babo  (with their Buddies of course).

These guys are about 9" tall and their Ugly Buddies are about 4".  The little Buddies have a cozy pouch to travel in, but I'm sure you could tuck a little something extra in there with him, like a special note, or Ugly savings cash.

Word around the Uglyverse is that these represent the first Uglydoll plush made in their new partnership with GUND who will manufacture  the plush Uglys in the future. (if you can call the birth of an Uglydoll "manufacture").  Don't be afraid.  This is also good news!  The co-creator, David and Sun-min still have the power! So all is well.
I've also heard these Uglybuddies still have the old Uglydoll tag, rather than the upcoming Gund tag.  So my collector heart must have them prior to the new tag.  Three down, three to go.

There is so much going on with Uglydoll these days my head is in a spin. But I will blog it soon!
They say blogs are a thing of the past.  I say, who cares.  I love doing it. So I'm doin it!
Grab you some Uglybuddies here. Just 20.00! That's only 14.77 for the larger Ugly and 5.23 for the buddie in his pouch.

The Bright Side

A few months ago, all of our Ugly Chronicles photo links broke while we were trying to reorganize Flickr. To replace the links to four years of Ugly posts is a time-consuming and daunting task.

HOWEVER....as with all things Ugly...there is a bright side.  It turns out to be an journey back in time as I read old posts, then search through hundreds  of photographs and locate a matching pic.

My heart is warm with old memories.  I relive the excitement of a new release from Uglydolls past.

At first I did not see the Ugly Time Machine waiting there to transport me.  But I'm on board now. Present meets Past meets Present. It's an Ugly ride!

Ice Bat x Thermos Lunch Kit

Let's do lunch!  Never thought I'd say those words. But that's what I said when I saw this new Ice Bat Thermos Lunch Kit.

That is a smart looking guy and I'd do lunch with him every day!

Uglydoll does it again!

You can get them at ToysRus for 9.99.  I'm sure they'll be popping up in other shops as well.

Ox Lunch Kit also available.  Includes equal amount of cuteness.

Make Room for Uglydoll x Funko

Make room on your Uglydoll collectible shelves. Uglydoll and Funko got together and made these funky, funny, squat little figures of our favorite characters, Wage, Ox, Babo, Ice-bat, and Batty Shogun.

Once again, following the Ugly Brick Road has lead me to a new experience in toys. I'd never heard of Funko, but now that Uglydoll has joined the line-up, I may have to pick up some of their other amazing pieces. Funko has a nicely endowed website with a Forum of devoted fans and collectors.  Some were unaware of Uglydoll, and I was unaware of Funko, so we'll all have loads of newness to enjoy.

Cool looking window boxes make these just that much more desirable.
Mr. and Mrs. Kasoogi's investigative work on the Funko site makes me suspect these will be 3.75 inches tall and somewhere between 7-12 bucks each, with possible articulation. They are part of their Pop Vinyl collection along with Micky House,  V for Vendetta figure, Tinker Bell and more. Sweet!

My next investigative task is to discover a release date.

Grass Hut Here I Come

Dr. Max Abima is on his way to Grass Hut in Portland, OR for the opening of their art show .

He's so very excited to see all the new creations from some of his favorite artist. Maybe he'll get to meet Bwana Spoons, or Le Merde! Or both! He may even pick up a custom. He's been saving.

Korean Customs is on his bad side for holding up all the Horvath art and making the show start without it. And you don't want to stay on Dr. Max's bad side.

Red Tooth Wedgehead VINYL

I am SO psyched. Just saw on Uglyblog that my beloved Red Tooth Wedgehead is being immortalized in VINYL.

David Horvath mentions in his blog that great time and care was taken to insure that the blue of the body matched the blue of the arms. The Uglydoll company always comes through with a top quality, safe, and amazing product.

The release is just around the corner at New York Comic-con. Since I can't travel to New York, I will start early to develop a strategy to get one of these beauties. I'd like to avoid paying flipper prices on ePay, but that may be my only recourse. Have any suggestions on how to get one straight from Comic-con?

My Red Tooth Wedge wanted me to post his picture too, so you can see the amazing resemblence to his Action Figure. They nailed it, didn't they!

The creative genius of David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim rolls on and on.

With the exception of the Uglydogs, I have a set of the Critterbox release of Uglydolls first Vinyls, and they are top notch. I am so looking forward to the next generation of action figures from Uglydoll.
My impression is that the upcoming action figures will be slightly smaller than the Critterbox Vinyls, and will move at waist, rather than at the neck.

Below I've included a pic of the older Critterbox version of Vinyl Wedgehead standing next to a snack bag of Cheetos, Little Ice Bat, and Little Tray. It's a good size comparison. Wedge is wearing his neck warmer because he is out on a visit to a friends office.

For those of you who are now saying, hey, there is ALREADY a Vinyl Wedge, so what's the big deal, I have two words. Red Tooth!

Note: The Critterbox Vinyls are no longer in production.

Green Abima is in the House

No adult supervision leads to all kinds of fun. As soon as Winged Green Abima arrived from Tokyo he whipped the cape off my old Ice Bat and got spooky.

His black wings are velvety soft. Bright yellow eyes give rise to a very cheerful expression. Green Abima is from a limited edition of 25, from Uglycon Tokyo 2008. Four color sets of Abima's with Wings were released at Uglycon:
  • Our Green boy pictured here
  • Red Abima with black wings
  • Black Abima with red wings
  • Pink Abima with blue wings
Each is a limited run of 25. We count ourselves lucky to have one. He brings happiness to our home, and a smile to my face each time I see him.

Stay tuned for photos of our other Uglycon treasures.

Green Abima is another brilliant manifestation from the mind of Uglydoll creator, David Horvath.

Kaiju in my window

My office window is transformed by the arrival of these amazing Kaiju. They all arrived on the same day. I juggled the boxes up the stairs and tried to decide which to open first. Finally, I grabbed a box knife and just went for it. Each box was more breathtaking than the one before, but nothing topped the glory of Clear Orange Wage, shown in the center. It's worth it to click on this photo to see a close-up of Wage.

The taller pieces are Mothman and Flatwoods Swamp Gas Type in pink, then El Grande himself, Clear Orange Wage, and Chupacrabra with the gold top notch. The little guys are all Uma. Each of these is from the creative genius of David Horvath of Uglydoll fame. The Uma are offspring of Mothman and Flatwoods, but not together, as I'd previously thought. Call me a romantic, but yes, I thought Mothman and Flatwoods were a couple, or at least met up sometimes outside work.

What is so appealing about this group of Kaiju? Where to start! Quality shows in every part of them, from David's design to the final product. They gleam in the light, and when backlight at dusk, or by the porch light, they radiate color and coolness. They are smooth to the touch, and are poseable. In his photo Chupacabra is seen with his head turned to the wide so you can see his face and the ridges down his spine. Chup's tiny arms are also articulated. Even the hoods pop off of the Uma Flatwoods, the little guys with the pointy heads. And if all that wasn't enough, Mothman and Flatwoods GLOW IN THE DARK.

They are fun to look and fun to touch. That to me is a collectors dream.
